7 December 2022 at 19:59 Peru: The National Assembly deposes the president The elected representatives of Peru voted tonight to depose President Pedro Castillo. Vice-president Dina Boluarte is scheduled to take over power at 11pm Norwegian time. Castillo has been accused of a coup d’état after earlier this evening he dissolved the National Assembly, introduced a government of emergency and called new elections. Several media reports that Castillo was arrested after he left the presidential palace in Lima.
