The meteorologist is unable to report the weather on 17 May – news Vestland

National Day is only five days away, but it is still not good to know whether you can enjoy the sun while riding the 17 May train, or whether the umbrella should be included. This year, the weather forecast has proven to be very difficult for the meteorologists to say anything about. The forecasts have fluctuated greatly in recent days. The reason is low pressure and high pressure that come and go. – This makes it difficult to say where the precipitation will come, and whether it will come, says on-duty meteorologist Iselin Skjervagen. Everyone is hoping for sunshine on 17 May, but the meteorologists can’t promise anything. Photo: Ørn E. Borgen / NTB Opposing weather forecast The two latest forecasts for 17 May are very different from each other. The very latest sees rain in Trøndelag, Møre and Romsdal and Northern Norway. The rest of the country seems to get pretty good weather. – But the warning that came just before this seemed to be the exact opposite. So it could very well be that the weather forecast we are bringing now can turn around just as suddenly again, she says. Within a few hours on Friday, the forecasts for the National Day have changed abruptly. This makes it difficult to say anything for sure about what the weather will be like. Meteo If the latest forecast holds true, southern Norway can expect temperatures of 12–15 degrees on National Day. Nordland can get up to ten degrees, while the protractor can see 3 degrees in Troms and Finnmark. Even the meteorologist has not been lost in such uncertain forecasts before. She and her colleagues are belittled by people who wonder what the day looks like. Especially May 17 committees will want to know as they have to have a plan ready in case things go down. This is what it looked like at Torgallmenningen in Bergen in 2015. Photo: Kjell Jøran Hansen / news Can turn around in a short time The meteorologist says it is not unusual that the weather can be difficult to predict at this time of year. Especially when there is no high pressure or low pressure that is more stable. – And that’s the way it is at the moment, she says. For example, it was forecast to be sunny in Austlandet today, but the umbrella had to be brought out. There may also be a risk of thunderstorms during the day. – So it is not just the weather on 17 May itself that is difficult to say anything about, because the days leading up to the national day are also uncertain, she says. Only on Monday will the meteorologist dare to say something for sure whether people will have to eat the ice cream in the sun or rain.
