The man in his 30s is now charged with premeditated murder and two attempted murders after he drove onto the pavement in the center of Steinkjer on Sunday night and hit three people. 21-year-old Sigve died after the collision. Another person was slightly injured, while a third person escaped the incident unharmed. The man is also charged with drink driving and driving without a valid driving licence. Has strengthened the suspicion – The investigation in recent days means that we now believe we have a more precise picture of the sequence of events. Witness statements and video surveillance have strengthened the suspicion that it was a deliberate act. Based on this, we have increased the charge to cover intentional murder and attempted murder of two victims. This is what police attorney Line Dreier Ramberg in the Trøndelag police district says on Thursday. According to the police, the charge may be changed again as they investigate the case further. Work is still underway to find out if there are more victims in the case. The accused man in his 30s was remanded in custody for two weeks on Monday. – He has not been questioned again and has been clear that this is not an intentional act, says the man’s defender, Marstrander Berg. The police blocked off a large part of the main street through the center of Steinkjer after the incident on Sunday. They are now working to investigate whether there are surveillance images of what happened. Shock in Steinkjer On Sunday evening, there was a commemoration at the crime scene where many laid flowers and candles. A significant number of people then came together to hold each other, support each other and remember the man who died. The churches in Steinkjer have also been open to those who wish to gather. Mayor of Steinkjer municipality, Anne Berit Lein, says the local population is in shock. – It is completely unreal and it is a bottomless sorrow, she told news earlier this week. Lein says her thoughts go out to the relatives and others who were in Kongens gate when the collision happened. They are followed up by the municipality’s crisis team. – Now it is important that we as a Steinkjer community stand up and show care for each other, those who are directly affected and all the young people who had a traumatic night in Kongens gate, she said.
