2 February 2024 at 14:12 The government opens up several new areas for the US military in Norway The government will allow eight new “unified areas” where the US can develop military infrastructure. From before, they have been given four such areas in Norway. The proposed new places where the Americans will be released are Andøya air station, Ørland air station, Haakonsvern military station, Værnes air station and garrison, Bardufoss air station, Setermoen garrison as well as firing and training fields, Osmarka mountain facility and Namsen fuel facility, the government states. Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram (Sp) signed the agreement with US ambassador Marc Nathanson on Friday morning. – In today’s security policy situation, we must strengthen relations with our allies. It is important for our security and the entire Nordic region. The United States is a close ally, and the cooperation between our two countries has developed over more than 75 years, says Gram. The new agreement is sent out for consultation and must be approved by the Storting. (NTB)
