The future of motorsport may be silent

Motorsport has dura, noise and ooze of exhaust for a number of years, to the delight of the public. More and more people bow down to Formula 1, and the Netflix series “Drive to survive” has been a smash success. But the electric car is here to stay, notes Rune Martin Nesheim in the Electric Vehicle Association. And a silent car environment is about to establish itself at Vinstra in Gudbrandsdalen. It was the commentator’s voice that could be heard above those present at the Vinstra motorsport arena this weekend. Not car lanes. Because there the very first NM in electric car racing was arranged. SPEAKER: Per Christian Håveødegård is the organizer and was the speaker during the National Championships. The audience heard more from him than from the cars on the track. And this year’s edition was a test before planning to make this an annual affair. – It is different and it should be different. That is why we have had to start from scratch with creating regulations and a fair driving system. Simply try something new, he says. QUIET: We have established our own rules for the competitions where the cars are silent and run on electricity. You can only hear the tires of the cars whizzing by. He does not look away from the fact that this could be the future of motorsport. – We can’t just operate with Formula 1 and expensive cars. One day maybe the car cross will be dead, that you won’t be allowed to drive on petrol. Then we have to start here to come up with something, says Håveødegård. Rune Martin Nesheim is a car tester at the Electric Vehicle Association. He thinks it is time to rethink the car track. – Now you have a unique opportunity to make motorsport completely clean. We must look ahead. THE FUTURE: Rune Martin Nesheim believes the electric car has a future in motorsport. Photo: Vinstra Motorsportarena People are used to the race car on the track. But Nesheim believes that one can get used to stillness and. – The electric car is here to stay. This is going to be fun too. We want to see exciting motorsport on electricity too, says Nesheim. Establishes electric car track The car enthusiasts at Vinstra have big plans. They will establish Norway’s first electric car track. They make plans to supply themselves with the current and. Gradually, solar cells will be installed. – Our facility can produce electricity most of the time, even when we have no activity on the tracks. We can then store this for later use, or send the energy out into the power grid and make it available to others. It is good environmental work and dynamic energy management, explains Håveødegård. He thinks they are coming up with these ideas quite early – also outside the country’s borders. – Many people think that we are also very early in Europe. It’s fun if we’re out early, not just with an electric car, but with racing it.
