Norway’s European Championship hopes fell to nothing after yet another failed qualification. The Norwegian men’s national team has not participated in a major championship since 2000, but every now and then there are statements that – with players like Erling Braut Haaland and Martin Ødegaard on the team – it is only a matter of time before the curse is broken. What does the future of football in the national team really look like? We challenged news’s football experts Kristoffer Løkberg and Carl-Erik Torp to each select a presumed first eleven for Norway when the EC starts in mid-June 2028. Both agree, there is reason to keep faith in the men’s national team. – The future looks bright, there is great reason for optimism. Although Norway failed to qualify for the EC, with 24 nations, there is a basis for optimism among the players before the WC qualifiers where only 16 nations from Europe go to the championship itself. Thorstvedt: – Have faith in this project Kristian Thorstvedt believes it is important to maintain faith that Solbakken and his national team are on the right track. – I have faith in this project with Ståle and believe we must continue to build on what we are doing. I know that the entire player group has faith in it and then it’s just a matter of trying and doing better next time, he says.
