Since 1900, there have been several years with a lot of precipitation. The wettest was in 1951. In August this year there was so much rainfall that it is the fourth wettest month since 1950. The extreme weather “Hans” hit southern Norway on 7–9. August, and led to floods, landslides and flooding in several places. It happened at the same time as it was record hot in Northern Norway. The meteorologists called it the summer of all time in the north. It was tropical night in several places. State meteorologist and weather researcher Eirik Samuelsen in Tromsø writes on his weather blog on Facebook that Tromsø has recorded the third warmest August month on record. – With an average temperature of 13.8 degrees, only 1930 with 14.0 degrees and 1934 with 13.9 degrees have a higher average temperature. The average daily maximum temperature throughout the month was 17.6 degrees, which is the second highest ever. For the average maximum temperature, it is 1934 with 18.1 degrees, which is a record on Vervarslinga for Northern Norway, writes the state meteorologist.
