One of the most important points for the Fosen agreement was that the state must find new winter grazing areas for the reindeer. On 17 September, NIBIO presented its assessment of which areas were best suited. At the top of the list were areas in Tolga and Os municipalities. Now the state has decided that the Fosen reindeer will be moved to Østerdalen. That’s what the Labor Court writes. This causes the local mayors to react strongly. The mayor of Os, Ivar Mitdtdal (Sp), also reacts strongly to the process. – The report states that the municipalities were informed. We were informed just under 24 hours before the report was available. – One sits here and feels completely overrun. He believes the state is primarily looking to sort out the conflict at Fosen. – The problem is that they are now sorting out a conflict between the state and the reindeer herding on Fosen by placing a burden on the municipalities of Os and Tolga, which have nothing to do with that matter. Photo: Lars Os / news Fears for wild reindeer Tollan Jordet says that he fears for the domesticated reindeer that already exist in his municipality. He believes moving domestic reindeer from Fosen will create conflict. – We have used a lot of resources and effort to keep this area safe for wild reindeer, where we take national responsibility for a red-listed species. He says that the domestic reindeer from Fosen will get close to the wild reindeer. – It will now get tame reindeer only seven meters away from it. There is only a county road between, no natural obstacles. – Thorough work To the Labor Court, State Secretary Elisabeth Sæther (Ap) in the Ministry of Energy says that the process leading up to the decision has been good. – Thorough work has been done here, and we are now continuing that work together with the municipalities that are affected by the solution that NIBIO points to, she tells the newspaper.
