The National Meteorological Service (SMN) has announced the arrival of the first polar wave of the year, coinciding with the long weekend. This wave is expected to cause significant drops in temperatures, particularly in southern regions of the country, due to a cold front moving in from the west. Weather alerts for snowfall and strong winds are already in place across various provinces.
Weather Outlook for AMBA
In the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA), temperatures are predicted to dip slightly, with a minimum of 8 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 14 degrees during Saturday. However, outdoor plans may be affected due to unfavorable weather conditions; mornings will be foggy, leading to isolated rain showers in the afternoon.
As nighttime approaches, the chances of rain increase to between 40% and 70%. Sunday morning will bring a notable temperature drop, with minimums expected around 3 degrees Celsius and maximums only reaching 10 degrees. Fortunately, the sun is expected to make an appearance later, lifting spirits as the day progresses.
By Monday, conditions should stabilize and clear skies will prevail. Temperatures will experience a slight rebound, with minimums rising to 4 degrees Celsius and maximums reaching approximately 16 degrees. Wind is not anticipated in this area, providing a more pleasant atmosphere for outdoor activities.

Northwest Regions
In San Salvador de Jujuy and Jum, temperatures on Saturday will hover between 7 and 9 degrees, with maximums touching 20 degrees. However, expect significant cloud cover with minimal sunlight. Sunday forecasts predict maximums dropping below 15 degrees, accompanied by isolated rain chances ranging from 10% to 40%.
Santiago del Estero to Cordoba
In the province of Santiago del Estero, a minimum of 12 degrees and a maximum of 23 degrees is predicted for Saturday, with mostly cloudy skies prevailing. By Sunday, a sharp drop to a minimum of 7 degrees and a maximum of 15 degrees is expected, along with isolated rain until midday.
In the eastern coastal areas such as Cordova and Santa Fe, expect mist and occasional showers on Saturday, while rain will persist into Sunday with temperatures generally ranging between 5 and 17 degrees.
Severe Weather Alerts and Snowfall Predictions
Saturday will see multiple areas facing severe weather alerts, particularly the northern and central mountain ranges of Neuquén, under an orange alert for heavy snowfall. Parts of southern Mendoza and Neuquén are also on yellow alert due to similar concerns, along with southern Santa Cruz and Tierra del Fuego, where strong wind gusts are anticipated.
By Sunday and Monday, the alerts are expected to continue in regards to both snow and winds, particularly in southeastern regions where intense gusts are projected. Residents are advised to exercise caution while traveling in affected areas.
