He died the day before his 91st birthday. Sven Nyhus has a life behind him where he was, among other things, a professor, artist, fiddler of the year, author and also presenter at news. Photo: news Professor and speller – Folk musician, composer and former professor of folk music Sven Nyhus (b. 1932) died in Oslo on Saturday, says the press release, which is conveyed through Jølstad funeral home. Nyhus was born on Glåmos outside the mountain town of Røros in 1932. One of Nyhus’ most famous melodies is “Bergrosa” from 1971. It is one of the most played in the Wish Concert on the radio of all time, and is the very signature melody of Sven Nyhus’ quartet. Nyhus was perhaps even better known as a composer of a number of old dance melodies, and as leader of the Sven Nyhus Quartet for almost 50 years. – Sven Nyhus worked in Folkemusikktimen in news in the 70s and 80s. He has a strong family tradition from the Røros district of regular fiddle, but also played Harding fiddle. Store Norske lexikon also highlights his pedagogical abilities and that, as Norway’s first professor of folk music, he has made a significant effort to develop folk music as a subject within Norwegian music education in general and at the Norwegian Academy of Music in particular.
