– It is gratifying to see that the children are healthy and doing well, says veterinarian Rolf-Arne Ølberg in Kristiansand Animal Park. The little cheetah cubs were born on Tuesday 15 October. The purpose of the health check is to weigh the children, check their gender, give them an ID chip and otherwise check that the children are healthy and well. They now weigh between 800 and 1000 grams each. – All the children are eating well, and have put on weight as they should after birth. The eyes open after 4-11 days. Photo: Dyreparken – Quirky and selective The birth is completely unique, according to Ølberg. – Getting cheetahs to show clear heat, and getting them to mate, can be a big challenge. Cheetahs are quirky and selective in their choice of partner, and everything has to work according to their terms. Mating takes place throughout the year. The female is pregnant for around three months. There are three females and one male. Photo: Dyreparken Endangered The cheetahs in Dyreparken are part of a conservation program in the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA). – The birth is important for the conservation programme. It is therefore very gratifying that Cannelle has had four healthy cubs, Dyreparken writes in a press release. Cannelle is five years old, and came to Dyreparken in April 2021 from a zoo in France. In addition to Cannelle and her four offspring, Dyreparken has three other adult cheetahs, one female and two males. Photo: Dyreparken Published 25.10.2024, at 16.40
