1 July 2024 at 16:01 The check app Grindr lost in the district court – must pay 65 million The check app Grindr sued the state last year for misinterpreting the Personal Data Act. It came after the Norwegian Data Protection Authority issued a record fine of NOK 65 million. The decision was then upheld by the appeals body Personvernnemnda. With the loss in the district court, Grindr must pay the fine – in addition to around half a million kroner in court costs, the decision from the Oslo district court shows. – This is an important victory for privacy. The District Court determines that Grindr has had a practice that is in breach of the privacy rules, say Government Attorneys Hanne Bjurstrøm Jahren and Thea Westhagen Edell in a statement to news. The checking app markets itself towards queers, but is widely used by men looking for men.
