– It is alarming. That’s what spokesperson Mads Skauge in Bodø/Glimt’s official supporters’ club J-feldt says about how the Norwegian league champions celebrated Sunday’s gold. What Skauge and many in the Glimt community have reacted to is the lack of gold celebrations. DISAPPOINTED: Mads Skauge in the J field. Photo: Vetle Mathiesen Knutsen / news For where Bodø/Glimt’s previous series golds have been celebrated with track storming and parties, there was none of that for the fourth series gold. Instead, it was celebrated behind closed doors for Glimt players and family. – I am very disappointed with the gold celebration – or the lack of it. I don’t like the signals it sends. In 2022, there was more planning and a bigger celebration when we took silver, says Skauge to news. – They cannot become too good for themselves and the league gold cannot become a habit. It is the biggest thing you can win in Norway and we never know when it will happen again, he continues. Club legend reacts It’s not just the supporters who react to the missing gold celebration. Bodø/Glimt legend Trond Olsen – with just under 300 games for the club – and current expert in Avisa Nordland, was also far from satisfied. – It feels like they are distancing themselves from the supporters. It creates a distance between club and fans, says Olsen to news. – It is weak on the part of the club. There are many fans who want to take part in the celebration. You must share it with those who are there and support the team at home and away, he continues. NOT IMPRESSED: Trond Olsen, here on the training field as a Bodø/Glimt player in 2018. Photo: Kåre Riibe Ramskjell / news Bodø/Glimt: – I don’t think we would do things differently General Manager in Bodø/Glimt, Frode Thomassen, has been presented the criticism from Olsen and Skauge. He tells news that he does not think they would have done anything differently. – It was a very nice celebration we had up in the stadium. The supporters were there. The audience was present during the medal ceremony. So we were able to participate in a celebration together about the gold there, he says, and continues: – Having a gathering where you celebrate the gold, players and coaches, it would not have worked in a club with access to all kinds of people. So we actually chose to have it for ourselves. And I think we would have done it all over again. We would have done that ten times out of ten, says Thomassen. DAILY MANAGER: Frode Thomassen. Photo: Martin Steinholt / news However, he is open to the possibility that they could add an intermediate station. – But where it should have been, I don’t really know today. But I think most people understand that renting a night club or being in a place where there are a lot of people works quite poorly for a small performance group going out. – That we could perhaps find an intermediate station where we drove by somewhere, perhaps. But I also think people understand very well that when players and coaches are going out to celebrate a league title, you can perhaps go to a place and say hello, but that you want to have that party to yourself. For most people, it will be experienced as completely normal. – I don’t think we would have done things differently if this had been done tomorrow either, he sums up. – Olsen says that it feels as if the club is distancing itself from the supporters and creating distance? – Then you have to ask what he means by that. How can he mean something like that? I just don’t understand that. That is a very strange claim. CLOSED PARTY: Here the Glimt players celebrated the gold on Sunday evening. Photo: Per-Magne Steen / news Track storming stopped: – A fabricated case When asked if the club has received feedback from supporters after the celebration, Thomassen replies that the only thing there has been is inquiries from the media. In an issue on the club’s website, Bodø/Glimt writes that they “don’t want to distance ourselves from our audience. The town and Bodø’s residents are important to us at FK Bodø/Glimt. We are therefore taking on board the feedback that has come in over the last 24 hours”. They also write that they will “consider letting the city take a bigger part in the celebration next time”, if they get the chance. Not even at Aspmyra was there such a celebration as several of the supporters had hoped for when the referee blew the whistle on Sunday evening. – The reason why we couldn’t storm the field seemed very strange to me. I can understand that they didn’t want it, but the reasoning is too bad, Olsen told news earlier on Monday. The club urged the supporters not to storm the field. Thomassen explains that it was a decision that was taken on a professional basis, for fear that the surface could be destroyed, after a lot of rain recently. – Trond Olsen is not a construction expert, and neither are our supporters. But we actually sat and made that assessment until a quarter of an hour into the second half, because we wanted to make it happen. It is really a completely contrived case, says Thomassen. The general manager says that they were not willing to take the risk of a pitch storm that could damage the pitch. – We will play against Besiktas on 12 December. We don’t have a spare arena, we only have that arena. Both for training and playing matches, says Thomassen.
