28 September 2023 at 08:42 Separatist leader: The breakaway republic of Karabakh will cease to exist The breakaway republic of Nagorno-Karabakh will dissolve itself and cease to exist on 1 January 2024. Then all state institutions in the region will also be closed down. This was stated by the Armenian leader of the region on Thursday morning. It happens after Azerbaijani forces took control of the entire disputed region during the last week. The region is internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan, but has been ruled by Armenian separatists for over 30 years. Over the past few days, over 65,000 of the 120,000 Armenians living in the area have fled the region. Armenia is now trying to find shelter and food for the thousands of ethnic Armenians. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan says all Armenians will leave the region in the next few days.
