– They have meant a lot. Mum has always been there, supported us and coached us. Dad has been our football coach and has been helpful in relation to what is required to be successful at the top level, so both have been important, says Thale Rushfeldt Deila to news. Father Ronny Deila is a former soccer player and coach and mother Bjørgunn Rushfeldt was an active handball player for a long time. When your uncle is also called Sigurd Rushfeldt and is the top scorer in the elite series with 172 goals – yes, then you have pushed yourself from the start. – Yes, they have been very good all along if I’m being completely honest. They were good when they were little. They seem to have had balls in them the whole time, says a proud mother, Bjørgunn Rushfeldt. TWINS: Thale and Live Rushfeldt Deila at battle five years old. For the first time, both are in the same championship. Dad Ronny Deila is currently a coach at the Abu Dhabi-based club Al Wahda, while mum has plans to get on the plane to Vienna if the daughters play in the finals. – There will be a lot of messages and phone calls. They are very proud that we both came along. It is hard work behind it, says Thale. FAMILY: Mother Bjørgunn with her two daughters, Thale and Live. Photo: Private / They have grown up in a family where the competitive instinct has been strong. Everything from ball games to blackjack and monopoly. – It has permeated everything we have done. We have a lot of winning instinct and competition from when we were little. We have played both football and handball and everything possible with a ball since we could walk, Live Rushfeldt Deila tells Live, and adds; – Mum and dad are both equally bad. Me and Thale are not any better in that sense, so, no, there has been a lot of fighting throughout. Norway plays its last match in the main round of the EC against Switzerland on Wednesday evening. Norway are already ready for the semi-finals on Friday, where they face Hungary. Listen to the match on news Radio from 20.30. PHYSICS: Sisters Thale and Live on the track together during the European Championships in Austria. Photo: Beate Oma Dahle / NTB The two of them both have a physique that makes their opponents gape. Viaplay commentator Daniel Høglund has given Thale the nickname “a concrete block in speed”. – Yes, I can take it. I want it to be physical and painful to meet me in duels. So I hope that’s true. – There is a wall there, after all. It must be said. When you hit her, it hurts. says Live about his own sister. Stine Skogrand is glad the sisters are on the national team, but has also met Thale on the opposite side of the track. – I have that in training and in the Danish league. It’s not the most fun. You don’t want to be alone with her, and if you are isolated, it is often Thale who wins those duels. You’re looking towards the Netherlands, then she gets a tackle and lies halfway horizontally in the air. Nevertheless, she manages to glue it up in the cross. It’s just impressive. DAD: Ronny Deila has been successful as a football coach in recent years. Photo: AFP Mum’s physique There is no doubt that the sisters are physically strong. But it also has its challenges. – We have of course worked to get it the way it is today. But I would say we have some genetic advantages in terms of strength. At the same time, there is a lot of hard work behind it and it does not come as a matter of course, says Live to news. KRAFT: You’d rather not stand in the way when Thale is on the hunt. Photo: Beate Oma Dahle / NTB – I would say that I have always been robust in that sense, but it is perhaps in the last five to six years that I have realized that I can use this to my advantage, underlines Thale. Mum, who for several years trained her two daughters and today works as a personal trainer, has no doubts; – They have the physics from me. They probably have the mentality from Ronny. Nevertheless, it is important to find the right balance. – I can build strength very easily, and that is both good and bad. I have to make sure I don’t lose speed and speed. I am very focused on training explosively. Finding the balance with not training too much heavy strength, so I become too heavy and the movements become slower. The fact that both now play for the Norwegian national team does not go unnoticed, of course. – A lot of people ask me about it. And only victory; “My God, you must be so proud.” And I am very proud. But honestly, the most important thing for me is that they are doing well. It’s not just as good to see the daughters in action on the sidelines. – Yes, I have watched the campaigns. I don’t really want to watch, because I get so nervous, but I sympathize. EC: The twins Thale and Live Rushfeldt Deila during a press conference in Innsbruck in the EC.
