23 September 2022 at 21:57 Carlsen to the final in the Champions Chess Tour tournament Magnus Carlsen secured a final ticket in the rapid chess tournament Julius Baer Generation Cup on Friday evening. He beat 17-year-old Vincent Keymer 3-1 in the semi-finals. The Norwegian drew in the first two games, before winning the last two. Carlsen will face either Vietnamese Le Quang Liem or Arjun Erigais from India in the final of the online tournament. It is played over two days, Saturday and Sunday. Carlsen’s opponent Keymer started promisingly in the opening game, and the Norwegian had to struggle to a draw with white pieces. The German chess talent had greater problems with time pressure, which meant that Carlsen (black pieces) played with slightly greater risk. It created some tension in the end game, but it ended in another draw. – All in all, it was mostly positive from Magnus. He was solid and was not pressured in the opening. Keymer showed uncertainty by spending far too much time, said TV 2’s chess expert Jon Ludvig Hammer about the game.
