The exiled journalist is also suspected of being part of the so-called Gülen movement. He has been editor-in-chief of the English-language newspaper Today’s Zaman, which was closed after the coup attempt. Seven years ago, he was also convicted of harassing Erdogan on Twitter. He has been granted political asylum in Sweden and applied for a permanent residence permit. Kenes is among those Turkey demands extradited if they are to give the green light for Sweden’s NATO membership.
