– It is with great sadness and consternation that I have been informed that Deputy National Police Chief and Regional Police Chief Mats Löfving has died. It is infinitely tragic. This is what National Police Chief Anders Thornberg says in a press release. Mats Löfving (61) has been investigated in connection with a personnel matter. He is said to have had a relationship with a colleague, who is also said to have reported him for mistreatment, according to SVT. In an investigative report presented on Wednesday, it was established that Löfving employed Linda Staaf as the country’s intelligence chief while the two were in a relationship. The report asks the national police chief to consider firing Löfving, writes SVT. It was around 7pm that the police were notified of an injured person through an SOS call. Löfving was found dead in his home in Norrköping. The police state that an investigation is underway to clarify what happened. – We do not know what has happened and cannot say that crimes have not been committed. Therefore, we have opened a preliminary investigation into murder. It is a standard procedure when we cannot clarify what has happened, says police spokesperson Dennis Johansson Strömberg, according to Aftonbladet.
