SV politician believes Vestland county council must opt out of KS – news Norway – Overview of news from different parts of the country

On Sunday afternoon, there was a new break in the negotiations between the parties in the teachers’ strike. This means that the strike, which started on 8 June, continues. The dispute seems to be very deadlocked, where the teachers’ organizations want more money on the table, while KS says that they have no more to give. Education Minister Tonje Brenna told NTB on Sunday that it was regrettable that the parties did not reach a solution at the weekend, and that the situation for the students is becoming increasingly serious. The Council for Mental Health and the Children’s Ombudsman are also worried about what the strike could mean for the pupils. Especially considering that many of these pupils have also lost a lot of schooling due to the pandemic. Have had enough Now local politicians are also calling for a solution to the conflict. Among them is county politician in Vestland, Marthe Hammer (SV), who believes Vestland county council should consider membership in KS. – In the entry for Vestland to KS, the teachers are mentioned, but they have not taken this into consideration. Instead, we have an employer organization for the municipal sector that has locked down, and is unable to find solutions and come to terms with one of the largest professional groups in the municipal sector. She refers, among other things, to Oslo, which has its own tariff area. There, the municipality and the teachers have reached an agreement, avoiding conflict. – We have to discuss why Oslo gets its own tariff area, while all the other municipalities and county municipalities must be part of KS when we see that KS is unable to find good solutions with the large professional groups in our sector. Hammer believes KS must take its share of responsibility for the fact that many students have now lost months of teaching. – Democratic process But SP politician and county board leader in KS Vestland, Jostein Ljones, believes that the current system is both good and democratic, and that KS has a clear mandate when they enter into negotiations with the employee organisations. – Before the salary settlement, the priorities of KS are up for political consideration in the municipalities and county councils. The negotiating mandate of KS is clear after that round and before the salary negotiations. County board chairman for KS Vestland, Jostein Ljones, believes that the current organization is the best and most democratic for Vestland county municipality. In Oslo, they have come up with a solution because they have also had the working time agreement for the teachers up. Therefore, there was more room for action there than in the rest of the country, says Ljones. The breach at the weekend means that the strike will continue, and will be stepped up on Wednesday. Then the number of striking teachers will increase to around 8,450.
