– Cancel the lowering of the Hammersborg Tunnel. It will save many billions. Then we can rather close Ring 1 permanently, as Oslo has requested. That’s what SV’s finance politician Kari Elisabeth Kaski said in Politisk Kvarter on news on Tuesday morning. She discussed the money laundering in the center of Oslo with the responsible minister Karianne Tung (Ap). 53.5 billion Norwegian kroner have in recent days put the spotlight on the galloping costs. In the time after the bomb attack on 22 July 2011, it was estimated to cost less than NOK 10 billion to rebuild the government quarter. The latest price tag reads NOK 53.5 billion. Rebuilding Ring 1 and lowering the Hammersborg tunnel ten meters amounts to 3.6 billion. This is part of the terror protection of the government buildings. SV believes that there should not be a motorway there at all. – Then you can both save money and permanently reduce car traffic in the center of Oslo, says Kari Elisabeth Kaski. – You have made the claim before. Is it too late? – I believe that it is not too late. The sinking of the Hammersborg tunnel has not been started. This is something Oslo municipality has also requested. – The government should enter into dialogue with the Oslo city council as soon as possible so that a permanent lowering can be carried out, says Kaski. DEBATE: Dropping Ring 1 was one of the cost-saving measures of Kari Elisabeth Kaski (SV) on Tuesday morning. Photo: news Previously rejected The red-green city council was met with deaf ears when they advocated permanent closure two years ago. At the Storting, SV’s demand for the same was rejected in the negotiations with Ap and Sp about the state budget for 2023. – SV has failed The Green Party agrees with SV on the issue. – The government and the state arrogantly choose to run over Oslo’s local democracy, neighbors and business in the area with a new motorway that causes more air pollution, noise and unsafe school and cycle paths, says Sirin Stav. MGD’s group leader in Oslo City Council, on the other hand, is not impressed by SV’s success in the matter. – They secure a majority for the government’s budgets. If they are serious, I expect them to put force behind the demands. – Until now, unfortunately, SV has failed in this matter, says Sirin Stav. Photo: Hallgeir Braastad / news New situation – We cannot get approval for everything, says Kari Elisabeth Kaski about the negotiations in 2022. She still believes that the galloping costs have created a new situation. – The government itself has been concerned with reducing the costs of the government quarter. So far they have failed miserably in that. Kaski wants an external review of the costs and wants the matter before the Storting. Until every stone is turned, she believes that what can be put on hold, will be put on hold. – We have never received a full and detailed review of the plans because much is graded and linked to security assessments that the Storting does not have access to, she says. MONEY SLIP: New government buildings are about to be erected. Photo: William Jobling / news Closing for the summer The temporary closure of Ring 1 will take place for the summer. The debate in recent years has mostly been about the disadvantages it will cause to the rest of the city. According to Statsbygg, a permanent closure will have large rebuilding and associated costs. Moreover, the consequences for society will be great. – The assessments show that there will be significant negative consequences for traffic and the living environment, says communications manager Pål Weiby. – The emergency services will not be able to maintain the same response time. There will be increased costs for public transport, emergency services and utility traffic, as well as costs linked to accidents, noise and pollution, he says.
