15 December 2023 at 09:35 Rage against the association: – It is discriminatory This autumn, the International Chess Federation (FIDE) came up with a new and controversial rule. The Norwegian Chess Federation reacts strongly to this – together with the other Nordic countries. – It is discriminatory. Chess is a mental sport, and there are no physical advantages, says the president of the Norwegian Chess Association, Anniken Vestby. The new rule that came in this autumn refuses people who have changed their gender to female from participating in their own women’s tournaments. Now the Nordic Federation, led by Norway, has come up with a statement. Here they protest against the World Chess Federation and the new rule. – We want to put pressure on FIDE, and we ask that that rule be deleted, says the president. FIDE has not responded to news’s inquiries. On Sunday 17.10 there will be a congress. The fact that the Nordic association is protesting and making this statement now is no coincidence. – We are coming out strategically with this call now, to get it on the agenda, says Vestby.
