NB! This review does not contain specific spoilers about the story in the game. After great success with the hardcore “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order” in 2019, Respawn returns with a sequel that lives up to its promise. “Star Wars Jedi: Survivor” is bigger and better in every way that matters, delivering a gaming experience that stands shoulder to shoulder with the best in class. Cal Kestis returns as one of the last Jedi Knights of the galaxy. THIS IS YOU: Cal Kestis has grown up since the previous game “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order”. Best friend and the ultimate problem solver BD-1 (on the shoulder) are of course included. Photo: Electronic Arts The Republic is dead and the fascist empire rules with an oppressive iron fist. We are in the aftermath of Order 66, somewhere between episodes 3 and 4 of the film series. Elite forces hunt down and exterminate Jedi Knights, one by one. Always something new Cal is torn between a responsibility he feels to take up the fight against the Empire and a desire for a safe existence for himself and his people. It can be imagined that it will be mostly the first this time. The experience grows throughout the game. New skills, new planets, new areas to explore, new merchants, new side quests, new characters and new concepts and ideas you have to learn to deal with. FUN: Use the Force, run on walls and fight stormtroopers while cruising at high speed.Electronic Arts Some tasks require the use of animals you tame, others require long sequences of running along walls and quickly using a grappling hook. Sometimes Cal’s Jedi powers can make changes to the environment, and many times it’s a combination of all that and more. The list of reference points is long: this is in many ways one of the game’s greatest strengths. It will be a kind of Jedi theme park that never ceases to surprise. SCARFACE: This guy, Pau’an, wants Cal. But it is not to invite buns and juice. He is one of the evil empire’s powerful senators. MENTOR: Cere Junda is one of the characters who continues from “Fallen Order”. She is a former Jedi who gave up due to severe trauma, but has taught Cal a lot. NEW BRIDGE: Bode is one of the new characters the game introduces, and he quickly becomes an ally of Cal. NEW ENEMIES: Rayvis (right) works on to exterminate the Jedi, and is one of the major enemies in “Star Wars Jedi: Survivor”. Beneath the armor lurk tentacles. Has one weakness It becomes particularly effective and magnificent when you gain access to new features that in practice change and improve the gaming experience quite drastically. There are several of these turning points in the game. But the extreme range is also the game’s one weakness. There is so much to deal with here, so much to get to grips with and so many game mechanics and design concepts that I’m getting a little dizzy. “USE THE FORCE”: Cal has gained far better control over his “force” since the last game (If the animation doesn’t play, you can try turning off the power saving mode).Electronic Arts You are forced to let go of the dramatic and exciting story and treat the game as a freewheeling action adventure that you explore at your own pace. And it’s fun, that is, just like in other large, open role-playing games. But it gives a slightly unfocused overall impression. Beard as a reward Much of the exploration is also quite anticlimactic. It’s a special feeling to ponder, fight and navigate your way through large, intense areas and then be rewarded for your efforts with a new moustache. HOT OR NOT?: No, it’s not Ron Swanson who’s joined Star Wars, it’s just Cal who’s grown a (pretty hefty) mustache. Facsimile: Electronic Arts If you’re a little fed up with “Star Wars,” it’s also possible that this deep dive into Jedi mythology won’t be an inner tier. I have to admit that I’m a little full myself. The more down-to-earth approach the fantastic TV series “Andor” has to the Star Wars universe strikes me better, for example. A LITTLE LIKE DARK SOULS: The boss fights in the game are intense lightsaber duels, with blocking, evasion and tactical chopping as supporting elements.Electronic Arts But the qualities of “Star Wars Jedi: Survivor” are still very convincing and attractive. Gorgeous exploration, stunningly beautiful environments, loads of engaging and varied tasks, an exciting story and incredibly satisfying battles combine to form a massive, fully-cast and highly entertaining Star Wars experience. PS. The game has been tested on PS5. PC players are reporting some technical issues in that version of the game. The developers write on Twitter that they are working on a patch to fix this. news reviews Photo: Electronic Arts Title: “Star Wars Jedi: Survivor” Developer: Respawn Publisher: EA Games Platform: Playstation 5 / PC / Xbox Age limit: PEGI 16+ Release date: 28 April 2023 Hello, gamer friends!
