“Super bloom” in California can be seen from space – news Urix – Foreign news and documentaries

An explosion of orange, yellow, purple and white now covers many of the hills of California. Usually the hills are brownfields at best. Often they are most similar to desert. Now large areas instead are illuminated in a cacophony of colors. – It almost feels like a painting, says 29-year-old Triana Montserrat to AFP as she looks out over the flower meadows. – It is so intricate and beautiful. My brain couldn’t come up with something like that on its own, she continues. Scratch the full image Carrizo Plain National Monument lights up in yellow-green on April 13 this year. Already in mid-March, the winter was the second snowiest in history. Instead of going dressed in shorts and sunglasses, people in the state retreated indoors. After the wet winter has now begun to transition into spring, nature brings its reward. Superblooming is something that only occurs in certain years. This year’s version will be particularly spectacular. The space agency Nasa has published images showing how the luminous meadows are visible from space. The Theodore Payne Foundation for Wild Flowers & Native Plants publishes weekly overviews of wild flowers in California. The latest overview shows that large parts of the state are in bloom. Image from the Landsat satellite shows how the super bloom makes Carrizo Plain National Monument glow green. Photo: Nasa “2019 Poppy Apocalypse” Unfortunately, in an era of Instagram and TikTok, a super bloom can easily fall victim to its own beauty. The last time there was a super bloom, in 2019, the meadows were visited by tens of thousands of visitors. They stepped into the vulnerable nature and destroyed the flowers. It was so bad that it has subsequently been called the Poppy Apocalypse in 2019. – It was a nightmare. They just trampled everywhere and broke a lot of flowers, says Pete Liston, who runs a zip line in one of the areas. Now, people in the city of Lake Elsinore have closed the road and stationed a police car at the entrance to one of the most popular areas, Walker Canyon. California has been through three years of extreme drought before this year’s rainy winter. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) writes that climate change is behind both wet and dry extreme weather. There is still large amounts of snow in the mountains. Now the authorities in the state fear what will happen when that snow melts. But for now, the inhabitants can enjoy the flourishing desert.
