Sumaya Jirde Ali talked about racism – then the heat poured in – news Kultur og entertainment

While many have reacted with sympathy, others have reacted with anger that Sumaya Jirde Ali has reported Atle Antonsen for racism. Ali’s friend Hasti Hamidi posted screenshots on Twitter on Thursday of messages pouring into Ali’s inbox. “And I who have just started going through Sumaya’s inbox so that she doesn’t have to do it herself.” writes Hamidi. A message begins like this: “lucky now or what?? now you found a celebrity you can harass, a talented man who you are not even worthy of licking his shoes…” Several men have sent Ali grossly harassing messages, claiming that she is worthless. “Take your vulnerable Islamic ass and go home where you come from(…)” begins another message. Claims Ali is the problem It was after an incident at Bar Boca in Oslo in October that Ali reported Antonsen. According to Ali, Antonsen allegedly spoke English to her, was aggressive and asked her to shut up several times. Eventually he said “you are too dark-skinned to be here”, she writes in the Facebook post. Comedian Atle Antonsen and writer Sumaya Jirde Ali, Atle Antonsen himself has apologized for the incident and has written in a post on his Facebook page that the comments were an attempt at a joke. He also wrote that the evening ended in a disaster, that it was Sumaya Jirde Ali’s fault and that it was only his fault. But in inflammatory messages to Ali, several men are clear that they believe she is the problem. Some therefore believe that if Ali is to go out on the town, she must endure rough treatment. Others believe that she has no business in the city at all. Antonsen believes the incitement is reprehensible Atle Antonsen is not happy that people are now attacking Sumaya Jirde Ali. His lawyer Marianne Klausen says so. – Antonsen is concerned that no one should feel sorry for him now. He has hurt others, and they are the ones who deserve that sympathy, says Klausen to NTB. Antonsen reacts to inflammatory comments against Ali both in the comments section and on direct messages. Several newspapers have closed their comment sections on the matter. – He has noted the comments. He is sincerely sorry that people whom he has hurt are being harassed in the worst possible way on social media. He thinks it is reprehensible that someone takes his behavior as an income for their views and opinions, says Klausen. Believes cases of racism trigger incitement Marjan Nadim is a sociologist at the Institute for Social Research and has researched hate speech. She believes that this is an example of a case that can arouse strong reactions. Photo: Institute for Social Research – Both because of the topic racism itself, but also immigration, integration and Islam. It is among the topics that often trigger very high temperatures and hate speech. Nadim has seen who it is that harasses others in this way. – The clearest finding is that there is a clear preponderance of men, she says. There is also a preponderance of people who are critical of both immigration and homosexual cohabitation. Many of them are motivated by an ideological conviction, such as a strong skepticism about the consequences of immigration, and Muslim immigration in particular – then racism as a theme can be a trigger for these people. Especially in the form of the worry about “not being able to say anything anymore”, says Nadim.
