Strong winds in Nordland close E6 – this is what the meteorologist says – news Nordland

On Saturday morning, the E6 north of Mosjøen was closed due to strong gusts of wind. A detour is possible on county road 78 via Drevjamoen. This is currently the only closed road in the county, but the wind is not yet at its strongest and Saltfjellet in particular is being monitored by the road service. – The wind has not hit quite as we feared, but that can change at any time, says traffic operator at the road traffic center north, Synnøve Lukkassen. According to Yr, the wind should be at its strongest on Saltfjellet between 2 and 3 p.m. Photo: Meteorological Institute / Andreas Budalen Wind gusts of almost 40 m/s On the Helgelandsbrua between Alstahaug and Leirfjord municipality, there is now a yellow light and a warning of strong wind. There, Yr reports a wind peak around 8 pm and into the evening. – The bridge has been open and closed periodically several times today. As of now, the golden light is on, says Lukkassen. It indicates the danger of the bridge closing. Maiken Vassel at the Meteorological Institute says this area is more exposed to strong gusts of wind due to the location of the mountains in the area. There may therefore be downwinds that last for a long time. The strongest wind measured in the county on Saturday was at Sandhornøya in Gildeskål municipality. There, at 12 o’clock, an average wind of 29.9 m/s and a gust of 38.6 m/s were measured. This is what it looks like on Saltfjellet near Bolna on Saturday morning. Both above Krutfjellet and on Umbukta there is snow and strong gusts of wind which can cause snow drifts and poor visibility. – There is also wind on Bjørnfjell, but here there is not so much snow in the air. Lukkassen assures that they have good people who look after the roads and good communication on all mountain passes. Photo: Meteorological Institute The meteorologist says that the strongest wind has been around 12-1pm and that it now seems to decrease in the afternoon in most places. The weather has not had the greatest consequences either. – Apart from the closed E6, the Værøy-Røst-Moskenes ferry connection has been cancelled. There will be precipitation throughout the day and there is a warning for slippery roads due to ice in parts of Helgeland and Sør-Salten. – You should probably be aware of the combination of wind and the transition to mild weather that the roads can become a bit slippery. Drive according to the conditions and adjust your speeds.
