Strong winds and slippery roads cause trouble in the north – news Nordland

The Norwegian Meteorological Institute has issued a yellow danger warning for gusts of wind for parts of Northern Norway. From Monday morning to Monday evening, locally strong gusts of 27 to 33 m/s are expected from the southwest. The E6 over Saltfjellet has already closed, and both ferries between Bodø and Lofoten have been canceled due to bad weather. Mild weather also leads to very slippery roads throughout the county. – It is absolutely true that there is a lot of weather this week. There is a lot of wind, especially in the far north towards Lofoten and Vesterålen. South-west stiff to strong gales in places exposed, as well as a small storm in the north and locally strong gusts, says on-duty meteorologist Ingvild Villa. A yellow danger warning has been issued for the whole of northern Norway, and it will be worst in Nordland on Monday. On Tuesday, there will also be a lot of wind, but at the same time a lot of precipitation, especially in Nordland. Photo: Meteorological Institute A lot of rain in store There is not only a yellow warning for wind that has been sent out in Nordland, but also a yellow rainfall warning south of Bodø from Tuesday to Wednesday. – There will be a lot of weather tomorrow and, but then further south. We have issued a yellow warning for heavy rain from tomorrow evening until Wednesday evening. Then there will be 40 mm in six hours, and it looks quite powerful. A total of 70–100 millimeters can fall in 24 hours in Sør-Salten and Helgeland. – I encourage people to keep an eye out for new updates. Now Helgeland can withstand a lot of rainfall, but there is a lot of ice and snow in several places, so there is a greater likelihood of storm water. Then it’s a good idea to check drains and such. The hydrologist on duty at NVE, Kristian Nordtun, confirms that there may be a flood warning during the day, but that they will wait until after the meeting with the meteorologists. – We certainly think that is a possibility. We already thought about it yesterday, but the forecasts are a bit uncertain. It may well be that there will be a flood warning during the day, but then for Tuesday, since that is when the most rainfall will occur. Nordtun says that it is also possible that there will be a mudslide warning due to a lot of rain and mild weather, but that this will also come during the day. The trailer of a truck train overturned on the E10 due to strong winds on Sunday. E10 was thus closed for just over an hour, which meant that the only road into Lofoten was blocked for a period. Troms and Finnmark will also get a good portion of storms, and then strong winds are the key word, according to meteorologist Trond Lien. Among other things, this has led to the suspension of the fast ferry between Tromsø and Harstad until further notice. – In Troms, we will get a south-westerly small storm in exposed places today, and tomorrow there will also be a strong south-westerly gale up to a small storm along the coast. You also have rain showers that turn into snow and sleet showers. Trond Lien warns of a full storm in Finnmark from Tuesday. Photo: Jørn Inge Johansen / news But we still get the strongest wind in Finnmark. – You will get an increase in Finnmark today, but tomorrow, Tuesday, there will be an increase from a strong gale up to a full storm. In these areas, there is also a yellow warning, and it will remain for the longest time in Finnmark. The meteorologist emphasizes that a full storm is not a gust of wind, but a sustained wind of approximately 25 meters per second.
