The earthquake occurred at 04.17 local time, is 02.17 Norwegian time. The earthquake had a magnitude of 7.8, and the epicenter was near the city of Gaziantep, at a depth of 17.9 kilometers. A few minutes later there was an aftershock with a magnitude of 6.7. The authorities have not yet reported any damage, but local witnesses say that buildings have collapsed near the town of Sanliurfa. The quake could be felt in Lebanon, Syria, Cyprus and Israel.
