Stjernekamp 2023 – Rock, September 9 – Reviews and recommendations

The review is continuously updated. After a very strong first round, the artists may have had time to warm up in their jerseys and get their nerves under control. Tonight, the audience will send home one of the stars. The rock night in Stjernekamp always offers surprises, so here you just have to put on your leather jacket – now it’s going to break loose! The evening’s performances in order: Tone Damli: “Piece Of My Heart” Version: Big Brother & The Holding Company/Janis Joplin, 1968 FIRST OUT: Tone Damli is first out in tonight’s broadcast (picture from the dress rehearsal). Of everyone on stage tonight, Tone Damli is probably one of those who is the furthest away from his own genre here. After all, as she says herself, she tends to appear reasonably tidy and orderly in her musical expression. But rocke-Tone has clearly benefited from Ida Maria’s coaching here. Her voice has undergone a kind of makeover, and I really didn’t think that Tone would be able to dig out this side of herself. She’s pissed off, insistent and for the most part serves up clean tones. It is naturally a little twisted and unnatural, and it sometimes looks as if the kind and good school light has put on its leather trousers for the end of school. But this was in any case far better than there was reason to fear! Damien: “Joker And the Thief” FLAMES: Damien has the pyro effects in place this Saturday (photo from dress rehearsal). These were matters, yes! Damien’s vocals suit both the genre and the song perfectly. This is clearly a guy who knows what rock is all about, and really gets to show off his superb vocal control here. Damien also has crazy energy and self-confidence on stage, which is very evident on stage tonight. And by the way: Is there anyone who looks more like a rock vocalist than Damien? A simply tremendously impressive achievement! Damien shows that he has more sides to him than the tiresome rock rap he performed last week, and really gets his revenge tonight. Cheers! Odd René Andersen: “Glory Days” By: Bruce Springsteen, 1985 THE BOSS: Odd René Andersen has chosen a song by Bruce Springsteen himself for tonight’s rock evening. One of my absolute favourites, Odd René, has of course chosen Bruce Springsteen – a vocalist who should sound good in his guttural and powerful voice. The song he has chosen is one of Springsteen’s most light-hearted rock songs, and also one of my favourites. Odd René naturally has full control over the tempo and tone, but perhaps lacks a bit of the devilish radiance of “The Boss”. Tends to exaggerate the facts a bit, perhaps we can call it a good old-fashioned over-ignition. Nevertheless, this is an almost perfect vocal technical cover, and he even allows himself to embellish the outro of the song a little extra. It was, as promised, a party! Elle Maija Klefstad Bær: “Lonely Boy” GUITAR HERO: Elle Maija Klefstad Bær rides hard Another artist on home turf! Last week’s big star claims to be a bit unsure and nervous ahead of the rock night, but there’s no reason for that! Elle Maija seems to have found a fixed pattern of action: take the competition by the scruff of the neck. Although her vocals waver a lot more here than last week, she gains a lot in terms of radiance and stage presence. Elle Maija makes a good, energetic and hearty effort here, and even if the vocals may suffer a little from the frenetic pace, there is absolutely no crisis we are witnessing.
