– It is an unreal shock. It is hard to believe that it is true, says Stine’s father Erik Evensen. He and his family were in contact with their daughter a few hours before the fatal incident. The tragedy in South Korea’s capital happened on Saturday night, when people gathered to celebrate All Saints’ Day. In the end, the crowd is said to have become so great that people panicked and trampled over each other in an attempt to get away. 154 people have been confirmed dead. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed on Sunday that a Norwegian citizen was among the dead. The deceased is 20-year-old Stine Roalkvam Evensen from Ganddal in Sandnes. Stine studied languages at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea. At the weekend, she was supposed to be with friends to celebrate the lifting of the corona restrictions. – Finally, everyone could be together without mask restrictions. There was a Halloween atmosphere in the town, explains the father. Stine enjoyed dressing up in the Korean folk costume Hambok. With friends, she went several times to Gyeongbokgung Palace to experience Korean culture and be a princess. Photo: private The family was in contact with her when she was getting ready, a few hours before the tragic accident. She also sent a snap and said that there were a lot of people out this evening. Stine posted this on her snapchat story before the accident took place. Photo: private But then they lost contact with her. Until friends contacted the family with information that the daughter had been found as one of the 154 dead. Then the confirmation came from the school, then the UDI. Again, the family is in deep mourning. Today, a memorial service is being held at the university where she attended, so that friends can remember her. She also had an adventurous side and was a very happy person with a great interest in travel, other cultures and languages. – It is these interests that brought her to South Korea, says the mother. She has lived there since November last year, and according to the plan, she was soon to return home to start a bachelor’s degree at the University of Stavanger. – The year in Seoul gave her many close friendships, and she already had her plans ready to go back to visit, says the mother. Stine said that these cherry trees were some of the most beautiful things she had seen. Photo: private She also became so good at Korean that she could make herself understood in everyday life. The family could witness that themselves when they visited her this summer. – There were many Koreans who were surprised when a young Norwegian girl spoke Korean, says the mother proudly. More foreigners killed Among the 154 killed in the Halloween accident in South Korea, there are 22 foreigners from 13 countries, reports Reuters. In addition to Stine Roalkvam Evensen from Norway, there have been deaths from China, Iran, Russia, the USA, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Austria, Sri Lanka, Thailand and France.
