Stine Hogseth got a bear up close in Heradsbygd in Elverum – news Innlandet – Local news, TV and radio

– I hardly believed what I saw. That’s what Stine Hogseth says, who lives with her family on a farm in Heradsbygd in Elverum. They run a stable with three horses and two ponies. On Tuesday afternoon, she was in the kitchen when she noticed that the horses were very restless. They had been visited by a bear in the enclosure. BEAR: On Thursday, a bear entered Stine Hogseth’s property in Heradsbygd near Elverum. – Fortunately, we were at home. Stine says that it was quite by chance that she discovered the bear on her property. Usually, the family has busy afternoons with driving and picking up various leisure activities. But on Tuesday afternoon, the snow had settled on the football pitches in Elverum – and the family was at home. – Fortunately, we were at home. I noticed that the horses outside the window started to run and seemed very stressed, so I went outside to check what it was. There was a bear in the middle of our fence, says Stine. She says that she ran back inside, grabbed her mobile phone, and alerted the family. She also notified the State Nature Inspectorate (SNO). Then she caught the uninvited guest on video. VIDEO: After announcing the bear’s visit, Stine picked up her mobile phone to film the teddy bear. Photo: Frode Meskau / news It was the Easterner who mentioned the case first. Joy mixed with horror At one point, Stine estimates that she was only ten meters away from the young bear. – I don’t think I was really present. I still tremble a little when I think about it, she says. She says that joy mixed with horror has taken on a new meaning for her. – I like all animals, and bears are nice, but I don’t want them so close. When it is inside the horse enclosure, it has gone too far. FEAR: Stine was afraid of her horses when she discovered the wild animal inside the enclosure. Photo: Frode Meskau / news Last night she did not sleep at all. She has been out to check on the horses every hour, fearing that the bear will attack again. – Today we will see if we can set up a camera, so that we can follow along from the inside. We have to take some measures, and when you live in the predator zone we have to try to keep them out. But keeping out a bear is not easy. Curious in the spring Simen Brovold is an adviser in the Norwegian Nature Conservancy, and was at home with Stine Hogseth and her family after he was notified of the teddy bear’s visit. The bear was gone when he arrived at the scene, but from the video he estimates that it is a young bear weighing approximately 50 kg. CURIOUS: Bredvold has seen the video of the bear, and thinks it seems that it was just curious. Photo: Private He does not think the bear had any intention of taking anything. – The bears are coming out of hibernation, and then they are a little curious. There were livestock there, and a lot to smell, so he was probably curious, says Brovold. Therefore, it is also difficult to say whether the bear will appear at Stine’s home again. Facts about the bear Bjørn, actually brown bear, is a mammal in the bear family. It is the largest terrestrial carnivore on the European mainland. The brown bear can have a length of up to 2.5 metres, while the shoulder height is rarely more than one metre. Males weigh 100–300 kilograms and females 60–200 kilograms. In Norway, it thrives best in untouched coniferous forest, preferably in rough terrain. Adult animals live alone except during mating season. The brown bear is omnivorous with a diet consisting mostly of plants, but it also eats some animals and honey. Bjorn also sometimes takes sheep that are unattended, and in some cases also elk calves and reindeer calves. The brown bear goes into a den in winter, but does not fall into a deep sleep. During this period, it eats away at body fat and then lowers the body temperature by 4-5 degrees. The bear often digs its den in an old anthill, in the ground or in a pile of stones. In Norway, the bear enters the den in October or November and leaves it in April or May, depending on the temperature. Source: Store Norske Leksikon Not unusual Brovold says that it is not unusual for bears to come close in areas such as where Stine lives. – After all, this is a forest area with a few scattered buildings, so it is probably not that abnormal that bears can get close. He also says that this is more likely to happen in the spring. – It is clear that when you have young bears wandering out of the place of birth, it is not very unusual. In other areas where there are more bears than here, such a small period will appear in the spring, says Brovold. TRACKS: The bear that visited Stine’s farm has left tracks in the snow. Photo: Frode Meskau / news He also has advice on what you should do if you feel that the bear gets a little too close. – You should respect it and show consideration. It will probably pull away as soon as there is some traffic. That’s what happened yesterday too.
