There was a rock slide in Spansdalen in Lavangen municipality at 06.30 on Monday morning. A stone block of several tonnes is said to have come down just 8-10 meters from the house wall of a residential building. – It is a terrible experience. There are enormous forces that have been at work. People here have woken up to the collapse. This is what Asveig Andersen, who lives in the house, says. She got off to a rough start in the morning. The largest stone is in the middle of her lawn, not far from the house. – My daughter came running over. She knocked, shouted and screamed that we had to get out. I pulled on my clothes and got out. The avalanche had not finished moving when she arrived, so she was shocked, says Andersen. Considering blocking the road Operations manager Karl-Erik Thomassen at the police in Troms tells news that there is a large stone block weighing many tons that has landed near a house. The police have been in contact with both Lavangen municipality, NVE and the National Road Administration, in relation to further assessment of the need for evacuation and possible blocking of the road. – Now we are waiting for feedback primarily from NVE. They are now making assessments in the area as to whether it is safe there. We want to have the road blocked if it is not safe to travel there, and possibly consider evacuating residents, he says. The residents of the house closest to the stepping stone have already left the place and gone to relatives. Afraid to go back Several smaller stones have also fallen into her garden from the mountainside just behind. – I tried to go across the road because I was going to get medicine, but I turned around because there were a lot of small things that were still falling. What happens next I have no idea. The local newspaper Salangen nyheter reported the collapse first. Asveig Andersen says that she is now afraid to go back to her house. – Right now it’s quiet, but since it’s so rotten up there, I think to myself that when it rains for the rest of the week, there could be more. I dare not be there now. – In all this, I must say that we should be happy that we got out of the house and that the house was not taken.
