The poker world caught fire just over a week ago when Garrett Adelstein accused Robbi Jade Lew of cheating. A number of profiles gathered for a poker event in Los Angeles – with a lot of money in the pot. The accusations came after Lew played a hand in such sensational fashion that Adelstein immediately accused his opponent of foul play. Following the cheating allegations, the promoter announced that they would investigate the controversial hand. Now they have made a discovery – but perhaps not what they imagined they would find. Discovered on video, Lew changed his explanation several times after the incident, struggled to analyze his own game and finally ended up paying back the winnings of approx. one and a half million to Adelstein. She still denied that she had cheated. The investigation is still ongoing, but on Friday the organizer was able to announce its first findings in the matter. STOLEN: Several of Lew’s chips were stolen. The picture is for illustration only. Photo: John Locher / AP Because in the investigations they found a video recording of an employee walking up to the table after the “suspicious” hand. When Lew was away from the table, he quickly supplied himself with chips. Now this person has been fired. The organizer writes in a statement that they immediately took action when they discovered this, and terminated the employee’s contract. They also write that they have offered to reimburse Lew for the stolen chips – which should have had a value of around NOK 160,000 – and that they are taking steps to prevent this from happening again. – Strong evidence Adelstein, who accused Lew of cheating, has also seen the new findings and written a long report. He believes that the organizers’ new video evidence strengthens his claim that the competitor has cheated. – I feel confident that Robbi was part of a cheating ring with at least three members. Although I have strong suspicions about the many hands that were cheated and the specific methodology and roles of each member of the cheating ring, my legal team has advised me to leave this information out of this initial report, says Adelstein. ACE IN HIS SLEEVE?: Adelstein accuses Lew of playing dirty tricks. The picture is for illustration only. Photo: Jason Ogulnik / AP At the same time, he claims that Lew had a helper at the table. He believes that the video recording shows that the two communicated with each other along the way using body language and looks. In addition, he claims that the now-fired employee moved several pieces of furniture so that he could see the monitor that showed the cards to all the players. – The combination of the stolen chips and the moving of furniture is strong evidence that he communicated which cards the various players had, he says. Adelstein therefore believes that the new evidence suggests that the employee may have used his position to communicate with Lew along the way. How the game played: In this version of poker, the players are dealt two cards each. The cards are placed in a special place on the table, so that they are read digitally and appear on a graphic on the screen. In this way, the TV viewers can keep track of who is in the best position, who is bluffing, who should fold and so on, but of course the players do not have this information on the table. Responding to the accusations Accused of cheating, Lew says she has read the report to Adelstein, but does not understand the allegations. Among other things, what is referred to as “cheating”. – I have no relationship with the former employee, she writes in a longer post on Twitter. – There is no evidence against me, simply because I have not cheated. I have found myself in a bizarre situation where I am asked to prove my innocence. Furthermore, Lew writes that she will take a lie detector test as part of the process to prove her innocence. She ends the statement as follows: – The truth will be liberating and will end this exhausting process.
