“Star Wars Outlaws” – Reviews and recommendations

I like “Star Wars”, of course I do. But it should be mentioned that I think this almost 50-year-old sci-fi universe is at its best when the feet are placed on the ground. The TV series “Andor” and the film “Rogue One” are clear favourites. It has given me extra high expectations for “Star Wars Outlaws”. The game has a completely new story that takes place between “The Empire Strikes Back” (1980) and “The Jedi Knight Returns” (1983). The Death Star of the Empire has just been smashed by Luke Skywalker and the Resistance, creating opportunities for the criminal underworld in the shadow of the ongoing war. ENEMIES: Both new and old enemies of different kinds appear in “Star Wars Outlaws”. Video: Ubisoft Charming thief You follow Kay Vess, a street-smart thief with a heart in the right place. A similar character who stands shoulder to shoulder with characters such as Han Solo and Cassian Andor. She clashes with the ruthless gang leader Sliro and must flee her home planet with her faithful companion Nix. It’s the prelude to a “Star Wars” experience that mixes open-world exploration of beautiful planets and moons with stealth, criminal alliances, laser gun shooting and space battles. YOU’RE HER: Kay Vess is described as a fortune hunter from the casino town of Canto Bight on the planet Cantonica, and is looking for a big bargain that she can live richly and long on. Ahead of her lies an adventure she hardly saw coming. Photo: Ubisoft Nix is a small animal of the merqaal species, and Kay’s best friend. He is her loyal companion, and acts as a little helper in the game. Photo: Ubisoft Sliro is the leader of the Zerek Besh criminal network, which is headquartered in Kay’s hometown of Canto Bight. He is the game’s main villain, placing a bounty on Kay’s head. Photo: Ubisoft ND-5 is a commando droid that took part in the clone wars and is now a kind of “freelancer” who takes on various missions. He is among Kay’s (that is, your) supporters. Photo: Ubisoft A hardened bounty hunter, Vail is hired by the villains of Zerek Besh to hunt down Kay. Photo: Ubisoft Jaylen Vrax is an arms dealer and professional criminal, and not least experienced in carrying out major coups of the kind Kay wants to do. Photo: Ubisoft The aim eventually becomes to gather a capable gang to carry out the ultimate heist. Kay will rob Sliro of everything he owns. We are therefore talking about a story and a so-called heist experience that is in line with “Ocean’s Eleven”. With obvious inspiration from the aforementioned “Rogue One” and the TV series “Andor”. Known and loved And it’s a very good “Star Wars” experience here. The environments are stylish, the story is exciting, the characters are good, the music sets the right mood and it really feels like you are on a grand adventure in a familiar and beloved galaxy far, far away. Not least, you also get some lovely nods to the film universe, especially when you take the trip to Tatooine to (among other things) stop by Jabba the Hut. But unfortunately it’s not as good a game. The stealth is generally unengaging and is all too often ruined by strange enemy behavior and sudden shootouts – which also don’t work very well. The open environments are boring to explore, although they are beautiful to look at. There’s little excitement to be found outside of the main story, and riding around on Kay’s hovering motorcycle is frustrating. BORING: “Cruising” around on a hover motorcycle is unfortunately not very rewarding, says news’s reviewer. This despite the fact that the environments are beautifully designed. Video: Ubisoft For the younger ones It simply feels like I’m playing a weaker version of far more successful games on the same street, like the “Horizon” games or “Dishonored”, for example . “Star Wars Outlaws” does have a lower age limit than these, and can work well as a bridge between “Lego Star Wars” and “Grand Theft Auto Online” for younger players. STAY UNSEEN: There’s a lot of stealth involved in avoiding being seen by the enemy in Star Wars Outlaws. Photo: Ubisoft You get tired of this sneaking, says news’s reviewer. Photo: Ubisoft The sneaking often results in gunfights that aren’t particularly engaging either. Photo: Ubisoft It is also a place where the experience is so authentically “Star Wars”, I am undeniably charmed by both the characters, the setting and the story. But as a gaming experience, “Star Wars Outlaws” is not exactly memorable. PS: “Star Wars Outlaws” launches on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC on Friday. The game has been tested on PS5. news reviews Title: “Star Wars Outlaws” Developer: Massive Entertainment Publisher: Ubisoft Genre: Action-adventure Platform: PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox Series X/S Release date: 2024 Age recommendation: PEGI 12 years Hi, game friends!
