I’m very glad I went into this game completely blind. The only thing I had brought with me were the pictures you see above here. That was enough to get my attention. Squirrels with handguns? Take all my money! Your role in this game is to fight secret agents, unlock new weapons and costumes and not least: collect all the gold nuts! The cute squirrel is terrorizing a neighborhood to find all the golden nuts! Photo: Maximum Entertainment Still, I was a bit disappointed after I finished the tutorial, as the game looked more and more like “Goat Simulator” than “Crash Bandicoot 3”. In “Goat Simulator”, the whole goal of the game is to go around looking for trophies and finding new skins – nothing more. My fear was that “Squirrel with a Gun” would also be just that. Fortunately, I was eventually proven wrong. Exemplary introduction The game opens with a fantastic sequence where the squirrel mistakes secret technology for an acorn, and breaks into a base in an attempt to eat the nut. The secret technology is locked behind an impenetrable laser dome that can be unlocked by pressing all the red buttons in the room. The acquisition of the technology and the escape from the secret base serves as a perfect tutorial that flows seamlessly into the storytelling. The tutorial was so engrossing that when I got out of the secret base and learned that I would now be free to move around a neighborhood to collect nuts and unlock costumes, I was a little disappointed. I had simply imagined this to be a platform game, me now! Nevertheless, it turned out later in the game that the battle against the secret agents was not over. You will later be introduced to demanding tracks, mild brain teasers and bosses that must be fought. Taking nostalgia a step further It’s been a long time since I’ve played a game reminiscent of “Goat Simulator”, which took the internet by storm over nearly ten years ago. Just like in Goat Simulator, you have to interact with absolutely everything to make sure you’ve unlocked everything. A little tip from me is to climb to the top of all the flagpoles you see. Then you can get hints about where the secrets lie around the course. Here it is therefore necessary to find out where the secret golden nuts are. The more you find, the more can be unlocked of both weapons and areas. “Squirrel with a Gun” really improves on this type of game by adding an actual story line. Admittedly, not an incredibly rich story, but you eventually understand that the goal is to fight your way through the bureaucracy of the secret agents and take the rat … or the squirrel, if you will, on the boss(es) themselves. In addition, there is fun action and the level of difficulty increases the further into the game you go. Look at that little fellow here! He got a car! Photo: Maximum Entertainment As mentioned earlier, some bosses suddenly appear in this game. It is a very positive surprise and well timed when you need a little break from all the searching. Without spoiling too much, I can mention that the first boss fight was fun, and not at all “straight forward”, which is very positive! Many hours of good fun! With the absurd premise also comes absurd humor. You can rob the townspeople for all the acorns they obviously walk around carrying around, all the people act and look really silly, and the names of several of the characters you meet are very, very silly. The game is sold very hard, lowers expectations and then serves up some nice gold(s)! Photo: Maximum Entertainment And that’s how it should be! The game is fun, can be challenging at times, and oozes playfulness from the developers at Dee Dee Creations. This is simply good entertainment that is suitable for anyone who likes to search, think, discover secrets – and also get some action! news reviews Photo: Maximum Entertainment Title: “Squirrel with a gun” Developer: Dee Dee Creations LLC Publisher: Maximum Entertainment Platform: Windows (PC) / PlayStation 5 / Xbox Series X/S Released: 29 August 2024 Genre: Action-adventure Type: Single player Hello! I’m a YouTuber in the channels Multiguru and GRUS, where I produce gaming and entertainment content. I’ve been playing video games since I got a PlayStation from my dad for Christmas when I was two, so I’m almost born with a controller in hand. I’ve spent much of my career playing a lot of Minecraft and often fall hardest for other open world games. I love Elden Ring, for example.
