The man accused of being a spy, who was arrested at the University of Tromsø in October, will be remanded in custody for four new weeks with a ban on letters and visits. The Oslo district court believes that it is not a disproportionate intervention, and that further imprisonment is sufficiently justified. The court refers to the seriousness of the case and the danger of tampering with evidence. The police have justified the risk of tampering with the fact that the investigation is still in an early and vulnerable phase. Probably a well-trained intelligence operator In the police’s justification, they point out that they are probably dealing with an educated and well-trained intelligence operator. They assume that the man probably has a support system that can assist him in falsifying evidence. The police have seized around 30 data-carrying devices. Several of these will be investigated, but there is still a lot of work to be done to collect all the evidence. At the same time, the police point out that some evidence may be stored in cloud-based services, via accounts they are not yet aware of that the accused has used. More witness interviews remain There will also be more witness interviews remaining. The police expect that this will take some time, because they will probably have to be obtained via court requests. PST informs news that the investigation is still ongoing, but that as of today they have no new information to provide. The man’s lawyer, Marijana Lozic, confirms to news that he has so far not allowed himself to be questioned by the police. Beyond that, she says that her client does not want to comment on the prison extension.
