The next three weeks look promising for winter rental Norwegians – at least if you don’t happen to be in our northernmost part of the country. Here one has to be patient for a while longer. But for the rest of the country it looks better: – Now there is finally a bit of spring in sight, says state meteorologist Marit Berger. While crocuses and snowdrops, mere spots and birdsong bring out the feeling of spring in many of us, Berger is clear on what is the surest sign of spring for her and her meteorologist colleagues. – That we stop sending out danger warnings about snow, she grins. The fact that the temperatures are rising by ten degrees is another good sign. And it has already done so in several places in the country, says the meteorologist. The crocus is a sign of spring to look out for. Photo: Veeraya Bochoun / Veeraya_Bochoun Spring may be milder than usual March, April and May may be milder than normal. This is according to the forecasts of the research institute NORCE. Manuel Hempel at NORCE tells Dagbladet that there also seems to be less rainfall in Western Norway in March. There are also no signs of prolonged cold spells. The forecasts are comparable to the average over a 30-year period. The forecast for the next three weeks shows that Oslo and Bergen have plus degrees in store. But in the next few days, the whole of southern Norway will have to deal with a lot of rain. While the westerners can be happy that the rain will stop at the weekend, the easterners have to hold on to their umbrellas on Saturday and Sunday as well. The foreigners get rain over the weekend. For Mid-Norway and Trondheim, there are also mostly plus degrees in store until 20 March. – There are good opportunities to get above ten degrees this week and next, says the meteorologist. It will also stay quite dry. Northerners have to wait a little longer for spring. Here, temperatures will drop and end up on the minus side in mid-March. A lot of rain is also expected over the next three weeks. Pollen season under way Not everyone is equally excited about the fact that spring is on its way. Because with the season also comes pollen that spreads from the south and west to the rest of the country. – When it gets warmer and the sun is shining, then we see that the pollen warning registers pollen in the air, says allergy nurse Ingvild Gaare-Olstad at the Center for Asthma, Allergies and Hypersensitivity. An allergy vaccine may be the best solution for those most affected by pollen allergies. Photo: Amanda Iversen Orlich / n650143 But there is help for those who struggle with itchy and watery eyes. Both nasal sprays, eye drops and allergy tablets can be of great use. For those who have the biggest problem, however, the solution can be an allergy vaccine, which at best can cure the allergy. Gaare-Olstad recommends starting the treatments before the pollen is spread out. Gardening soon to come For those who feel their fingers itch after gardening, you can start cultivating indoors in March. Both tomatoes and a number of flowers can be started indoors and moved outside as needed, Anders Røyneberg and Erik Schjerven say. The duo has written several books about gardens and plants. Now they are happy that spring is on its way. – We are very happy to see the blue road and horse’s hoof. There are probably many people looking forward to ours after a very long and cold winter, says Schjerven. Soon it will be time to start planting indoors. Photo: arcticgardener
