Soft snow in the south and east – ruined ski slopes in the west – news Vestland

Water ponds have formed in the ski slopes at Langeland in Sunnfjord. A few days ago there was good gliding on the slopes, but now it’s raining. Meteorologist Julie Solsvik Vågane promises some improvement – before the wet weather returns in the west. Thursday will be a bright spot for the Westerners. – There seem to be good periods of sunshine for large parts of Western Norway, says the meteorologist. In Nordfjord and further north, there will still be sleet and snowstorms, says Vågane. Closer to the weekend, new low pressure will arrive with milder air in Western Norway. Then there will be new rounds of rain, especially on Saturday and Sunday there will be low pressure and wet weather in the west. BRIGHT POINT: Westerners can enjoy the sun on Thursday, before the rain returns. Photo: Meteorologists A lot of snow has fallen In other parts of the country there is still a lot of snow. – There has been a lot of snow in Sørlandet, Telemark and parts of Buskerud. There it is well above what is normal for the time of year, says meteorologist Eldbjørg Moxnes. Strong south-east and east winds have produced a lot of white precipitation in these areas, but now it will stop for a while. – There will be some dry days for the area in the future, says Moxnes. – People can have time to shovel away the snow this weekend here. On Twitter, the Norwegian Meteorological Institute writes that foreigners can leave their umbrellas to rest until Sunday and enjoy the weather for much of the weekend. Moxnes says that, as of now, Thursday is the best day. – On Friday there will be lingering weather and slightly colder air, then slightly milder air on Saturday and Sunday. But it looks like it will mostly stay with the possibility of some snow on Sunday. Several snow and slush avalanches In the north, according to the meteorologists, there will be “a bit of a quarter” on the weather front this weekend. With variable weather, it can be slippery for vegans, warns the Meteorological Institute. Moxnes says that the weather will be slightly calmer and temporarily colder on Thursday. Then there will also be some snow towns. On Friday, a new low pressure will arrive with milder air, a higher snow line and precipitation mostly as rain in the lowlands. Higher in the mountains, the precipitation comes as snow. In Nordland, there were several snow and slush avalanches on Wednesday. In Sogndalsdalen in Western Norway, Helge Torstad witnessed a slush avalanche on Wednesday morning. The landslide was only ten meters from the national highway, he estimates. Sogn Avis mentioned the landslide first. – Fortunately, it went well this time too, says Torstad to news. A mudslide was close to reaching national highway 5 between Sogndal and Skei. A car was driving on the road when the landslide came. Heavy rainfall in central Norway In central Norway, people must expect a good deal of rainfall in the next few days. Snow showers are expected on Thursday, while the weather will be milder on Friday. – Then it will probably rain, but with snow at high altitudes in Møre and Romsdal and Trøndelag. It can be quite windy, especially along the coast, says Moxnes. On Saturday, urban weather is forecast with rainstorms along the coast, but you don’t have to go far inland to get the precipitation as sleet – and snowstorms. – It looks like it will be the same on Sunday, says the meteorologist.
