– So stupid that it doesn’t work – news Sport – Sports news, results and broadcasting schedule

– It’s a stupid situation, because it wasn’t my fault, says a sly Pawel Wasek to news. After he had gone to the toilet before jumping in the first round, the Polish 24-year-old’s jumping equipment had disappeared without a trace at the top of LysgÃ¥rdsbakken. The Polish team claims that it was one of the volunteers who took the bag and shoes to the lift and sent them down from the top. Thus he was not allowed to jump, as he was not ready in time. – It is very frustrating. We have come a long way to come here to jump, but because of this situation I can’t jump, says Wasek. Competition manager Linda Svendsrud says they have spoken to the volunteers about the situation. – The organizer had a plan to carry the athletes’ bags down after they had gotten ready for jumping. A system was formed on where those bags were put, and unfortunately the bag of the Polish athlete was at that area, together with the bags that it seemed were going to be taken down, she says. Svendsrud continues: – It was included in the transport. It is regrettable, but it is now the case that according to the regulations, it is the athlete who is responsible for their own equipment, she says further. – So stupid that Wasek’s coach, Thomas Thurnbichler, says he has never experienced anything like this and cannot understand that something like this can happen in the World Cup. – It’s so stupid that it doesn’t work, he says to news. The coach says that the athlete discovered that the equipment was missing early enough for someone in the Polish support apparatus to retrieve it, but believes that there was a lack of communication on the part of the organiser. – I have spoken to FIS and said that I am super disappointed. COACH: Thomas Thurnbichler. Photo: KACPER PEMPEL / Reuters He is not satisfied with the jury either. – For me, it is not fair from the jury. They weren’t open to any discussion, but that wasn’t his fault. He was not responsible for this situation. I hope something like this never happens again, says the coach. Norwegian Halvor Egner Granerud was surprised that Wasek, with starting number 36 on his chest, was still next to him at the top when number 37 set off. – It’s just a pity for him. It’s just crazy. Some have been a bit eager to do our job. They have been very good at sending down our warm clothes, but they have clearly become a bit overzealous, says Granerud. ALTHOUGH LITTLE: Halvor Egner Granerud. Photo: Terje Haugnes / news Must be ready at the right time Due to a rule change before the season, the athlete could not jump at a later time in the round. – If the athlete is not ready in the time period the athlete has to jump, then the athlete does not have the opportunity to jump unless there are some extreme special circumstances. This is what we want to get clarity on, says Sandro Pertile, head of race at the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS). – Don’t you think these are special circumstances? – To be honest, I don’t know. That is what I want to get clarity on, says Pertile. PS! Stefan Kraft won the race and has won all four races so far this season. Marius Lindvik was the best Norwegian in sixth place.
