23 April 2023 at 16:05 Skiers taken by avalanche – retrieved by the Red Cross A rescue operation has been launched to retrieve an injured skier who has been taken by an avalanche at Skittentinden on Kvaløya in Tromsø, the police report. – He was taken from the avalanche and taken down the mountainside, but was not buried, says operations manager in the Troms police district, Eirik Kileng. The person was taken from the avalanche at 2 p.m., and several attempts have been made to retrieve the person. The skier is conscious, but is said to have suffered fractures. – Both the air ambulance and the rescue helicopter have tried, but the weather is too bad in the area, says Kileng. The skier was in a group of three, and is looked after by the other skiers on site. At 16:15 the police report that the rescue helicopter has managed to retrieve the injured skier. The person is transported to the University Hospital of Northern Norway.
