Should the Christmas presents be sent by post? Then you have a bad time – news Rogaland – Local news, TV and radio

– It’s just as fun every year. I’m going to be a little Santa Claus! That’s what Knut Erik Paulsen says. He works at Posten and Bring’s logistics center at Ganddal in Sandnes. He notices that people have become better at sending Christmas presents well before Christmas. – People have been smarter this year. It is more even, last year it was violent. Nevertheless, Posten has a clear message for those who are going to send or receive gifts: – If you have received a message to collect a package, collect it immediately. Now it’s tasteful at the delivery points. And are you going to send the Christmas presents in the Post? Then you have to do it during Friday. Jostein Olsen says so. He is head of the driving office at the logistics centre. Jostein Olsen, manager of the driving office at Posten and Bring’s logistics center in Sandnes. Around 30,000 packages a day come through the logistics center in the high season – which is now. Olsen notes that the number of packages has increased somewhat from last year – by approximately 4 per cent. – There are somewhat more packages this year than last year, but they are also smaller in size, says Olsen. This year’s package deadlines Remember to send your Christmas presents before 16 December. Photo: Per Øystein Kvindesland / news If you are sending Christmas presents with Posten or Bring, the deadlines are as follows: If you are sending a small package, within southern or northern Norway, the deadline is 19 December. From southern to northern Norway, and from northern to southern Norway, Friday 15 December applies. Large packages have a deadline of Friday 15 December. This applies to the whole country, with the exception of Svalbard. The deadline for Svalbard expired on 9 December. Package with next day express delivery is 20 December, while same day express delivery has a deadline of 21 December. Hjelthjem also has 15 December as the Christmas deadline. In some places in the country it can be faster, but if you want to be sure that the packages arrive before 24 December, the 15th applies. Olsen points out that people must remember to label breakable and liquid gifts clearly, otherwise the packages can be destroyed. – Packages that roll, or have something sticking out, are also a risk. Then they can roll off the tape or get stuck. Sending more to each other Kenneth Tjønndal Pettersen is press manager at Posten. He notices an increase in the second-hand trade. Photo: Posten Bring Kenneth Tjønndal Pettersen is press manager at Posten. He explains that the amount of Christmas presents nationwide is at the same level as last year. Which would mean 2 million packages a week. – During this year’s Black Week, we were 12 per cent higher than last year. We then had an all-time high of 2.5 million packages, says Tjønndal Pettersen. The press manager has noticed some trends this Christmas: We send each other more gifts, and buy used more often. – During the pandemic, there was a marked shift. Many acquired new shopping habits and the volume of parcels rose. Now we see that a large proportion of the packages come from online shopping. – But has the increase leveled off this year? – We are at a high level this year, so it is too early to draw conclusions. It’s not Christmas yet, says the press manager. – There are many indications that there will be more used gifts under the tree Synne Haugrøning Braa is press contact at Helthjem. Photo: Endre Igland Synne Haugrøning Braa is press contact at Helthjem. She says that Helthjem handles around 3 million packages in connection with Christmas this year. Helthjem experiences the same tendency as the post office: – A large proportion of these parcels are consignments between private individuals, which are mainly reusable goods. There are many indications that there will be more used gifts under the tree this year. says Braa, and continues: – So far this year, we are up almost 30 per cent in volume (within private broadcasts) compared to the same time last year. At the same time, online shopping is also growing, which is a little surprising, especially since the market in 2023 and in recent months has been characterized by expensive times. At the same time, a record number of used parcels were also sent from and to private individuals. – It is surprising that the second-hand trade is not lower in a season for new purchases, says Braa.
