– You are used to it responding and responding, but then you just don’t do it. Completely heavy, completely hopeless, says Nordås after the failure. Nordås was the highest ranked in his heat and was expected to make it through to the 1500 meter final, but instead it was a total failure. The 25-year-old couldn’t find the way, and stiffened when it had to be decided. Thus the EC is over. He is unsure of what has happened during the weak championship. – It is as unsuccessful as it can be. You come here hoping for two medals … Then you realize that it’s not just the tactics, it’s the physical form that’s not there, says the Norwegian athletics profile. – This is the first time I physically feel that it is somehow empty, he adds. NO CHANCE: Narve Gilje Nordås only had the 26th best time in the 1500 meter attempt. The time was 3:46.15. Photo: NTB – He is not in control Nordås agrees that he should have been in control, but acknowledges that he has not been feeling well recently. – In the last four days leading up to the championship, I haven’t felt particularly well, I’ve been heavy, sluggish and tough, says the Gjert Ingebrigtsen student. Nordås also had a disappointing day when he ran the 5,000 meter final against, among others, Henrik and Jakob Ingebrigtsen. There he was number 11. This despite the fact that he recently came from a triumph in Stockholm, where he won the 3000 meters in the Diamond League event. – That doesn’t answer at all. It’s terribly strange, he says. DOWNTOWN: Narve Gilje Nordås returns home from Rome to prepare for the Olympics. Photo: BILDBYRÅN He is unsure of the cause of the failed championship, but he is clear that his form will improve significantly before the Olympics. – If you pose like this in the Olympics, there is no point in traveling, says Nordås. Towards the Olympics in Paris, the plan is to train and participate in some Diamond League competitions, he says. – There are certainly many things to deal with. You have to take it step by step and day by day. It can be the sum of many different things, says the 25-year-old. Drama in Ingebrigtsen race It wasn’t completely problem-free for Ingebrigtsen in the second trial heat over the distance either. As so often, he was at the back of the field, and first almost crashed with a competitor, before several athletes were involved in a mass fall and went to the ground. Ingebrigtsen got around, and put in a very strong final round. – It was somewhat as expected. It answers well when I have to pick up some places. The German admits that it is his fault, says Ingebrigtsen after the race. He still had to use some effort to take the victory in a time of 3:37.65. – I have to have a great time, so then I get to test myself a bit, says Ingebrigtsen. He believes the competitors were a little too eager to pick up speed and get ahead of the field. – Then there will be contact and then there will be a crash and a fall. It’s cool and it’s an exciting exercise for those reasons. I’m almost surprised that it doesn’t happen sooner, because they are so impatient, he says. German takes the blame for the mass fall German Robert Farken takes the blame for the mass fall. He says that he wanted to sneak out, but then things went wrong. – I felt very strong on the inside and I wanted to stay there almost the whole race, to be honest, the German tells news. He also reveals that he received some comforting words from Ingebrigtsen after the race. He thought that Farken looked strong, according to the German himself. – He said I should keep calm and that I would take the others, for sure. It’s great to hear that from the best man, says Farken. Want Nordås in the final The gold favorite was also asked about his compatriot. – I wish there was a strong Norwegian team. When there are many strong smokes, there are consequences for the race. Those who do not advance are either not good enough or make tactical blunders, says Ingebrigtsen about Nordås. GOOD CONTROL: Jakob Ingebrigtsen could celebrate having secured a place in the final in Rome. Photo: Vegard Grøtt / BILDBYRÅN He passed the Italian Federico Riva at full speed. After the race, the two competitors exchanged words with smiles and laughter. – I felt quite clearly that I shouldn’t let him win. I felt pretty good, so it was worth the extra calories, says Ingebrigtsen with a smile. – It’s very nice with Jakob and it’s a dream. Now I’m going to the final, Riva answers questions from news about the incident. Ingebrigtsen came from a very strong 5000 meters where he took a superb gold. The final of 1500 meters takes place on Wednesday evening at 22.26.
