Sheinbaum Leads Infonavit Assembly
President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo recently presided over the 139th General Assembly of the Institute of the National Housing Fund for Workers (Infonavit), reaffirming her administration’s commitment to constructing nearly one million homes. At the assembly, she underscored the government’s focus on enhancing housing access for the working population.
Commitment to Housing Goals
During the event, Sheinbaum articulated her strategic focus on building and recovering around one million homes in her six-year term. Accompanied by Octavio Romero Oropeza, the general director of Infonavit, and key representatives from various sectors, she emphasized a clear vision for housing reform in Mexico.

Housing for Wellbeing Program
The Housing for Wellbeing Program aims to revolutionize housing access in Mexico by fostering the construction of 1.8 million homes. This initiative includes zero-interest financing options, credits, and various subsidies aimed at making housing affordable for low-income families.
Focus on Vulnerable Populations
Designed with inclusivity in mind, the program particularly targets heads of families, single mothers, elderly, individuals with disabilities, and members of indigenous communities. This strategy seeks to empower traditionally marginalized groups by granting them access to housing opportunities that were previously unattainable.
Eliminating Barriers
The program aims to eradicate economic and social barriers that have historically impeded access to housing rights. Various forms of support will be offered, including zero-rate financing and credit mechanisms tailored for home improvement and new construction.
Process and Eligibility
To avail of benefits under the Housing for Wellbeing Program, applicants must meet specific criteria:
- Live in designated Priority Attention Zones (ZAP).
- Fulfill eligibility requirements set by the National Housing Commission (Conavi).
- Provide valid identification and proof of address.
- Engage in a personal registration process at designated modules.
- Undergo documentation analysis and home visits if selected.
Impact on Quality of Life
Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration insists that the Housing for Wellbeing Program is a cornerstone of its social policy, expected to significantly enhance the quality of life for Mexico’s most vulnerable groups. With the ambitious goal of constructing 1.8 million homes, this initiative stands to reshape the landscape of housing in Mexico.
