Sheinbaum’s Warning on Opposition Alliances

On May 29, during an event in Almoloya, State of Mexico, President Claudia Sheinbaum made a poignant statement regarding the upcoming Accountability Report. She indicated that the report, scheduled for release on May 31, will serve as a response to what she called the “interventionist intentions” of opposition parties that align themselves with foreign interests. This declaration was made during a Community Assembly focused on the Contribution Fund for the Social Infrastructure of Indigenous and Afro-Mexican Peoples and Communities (FAISPIAM).

The Central Message: National Sovereignty

At the assembly, Sheinbaum emphasized, “The conquests of the people will not retreat in the face of any pressure.” Her statement resonated with the audience, as it underscored the administration’s commitment to maintaining the advancements gained through democratic processes. Without directly naming any specific opposition parties, she implicitly criticized those she believes are undermining national sovereignty.

Addressing the Opposition

Sheinbaum directed her remarks to former leaders who “ally with foreign interests, like the usual conservatives.” She affirmed that the Mexican people are organized and engaged in a democratic process, stating that the achievements of the populace will be safeguarded against external pressures.

The forthcoming report bears the title Honesty, Results, and Love for the People and Country and will be held simultaneously across various public squares, with a significant gathering planned at the Monument to the Revolution. The event is set for 11:00 a.m., establishing a national platform to outline the government’s accomplishments and future plans.

Commitment to Integrity

“We are not going to return to the regime of corruption and privileges,” asserted Sheinbaum, reiterating the administration’s dedication to governance that prioritizes the people of Mexico.

Investment in Indigenous Communities

During the assembly, Adelfo Regino Montes, the general director of the National Institute of Indigenous Peoples, announced that a total of 881 million pesos would be allocated to support 601 communities within the State of Mexico. These resources are aimed at enhancing:

  • Urbanization works
  • Drinking water
  • Electrification
  • Sewer and drainage

These projects are determined by the communities themselves during assembly meetings, ensuring that the funds are utilized effectively according to local priorities.

Looking Ahead

The Secretary of Welfare, Leticia Ramirez Amaya, provided an update on community engagement, revealing that approximately 13,500 assemblies have taken place—an effort projected to reach 19,000 by the year’s end. Sheinbaum also announced plans to propose a constitutional initiative aimed at securing FAISPIAM resources for indigenous communities, ensuring they receive support without intermediaries.

In closing, Governor Delfina Gómez Álvarez expressed gratitude to Sheinbaum for recognizing the importance of the indigenous communities, affirming that they would benefit from these funds for the second time. Sheinbaum’s leadership continues to spotlight the necessity of preserving national interests while uplifting marginalized communities throughout Mexico.
