Severe Weather Events, Downed Trees, and Flooded Streets: Thunderstorms Struck Multiple Federal States, Causing Disruption in Rhineland-Palatinate with Rail Services Temporarily Halted. Additional Thunderstorms Expected on Sunday.

Over the course of Saturday, severe *thunderstorms* wreaked havoc across several federal states in Germany. In *Rhineland-Palatinate*, local railway services faced interruptions as trees were reported to have fallen onto the tracks, causing delays and cancellations. Preceding these events, the *Deutscher Wetterdienst* (German Weather Service) issued an official weather warning indicating potential risks of lightning strikes, falling scaffolding, and high-voltage lines. The forecast also included possibilities of rapid flooding, property damage, and hail.

In the Trier area alone, emergency services responded to more than 40 incidents as a result of the severe weather. A police spokesperson reported multiple downed trees, and in Idar-Oberstein, lightning struck a building, leading to a woman being hospitalized with a trauma from the blast.

Flooded Streets in North Rhine-Westphalia

In southern *North Rhine-Westphalia*, heavy rainfall caused basements to flood and streets to become impassable. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. In *Erftstadt*, emergency services were dispatched to approximately 100 buildings, according to a fire department spokesperson. In the *Euskirchen district,* the police noted fewer incidents, though water accumulation was observed in certain streets and basements. Forecasts predict that thunderstorms will return during the overnight hours into Sunday.

*Baden-Württemberg* also experienced strong thunderstorms accompanied by intense rainfall, gusty winds, and hail in the evening. Numerous fire departments across several counties were engaged due to fallen trees, flooded basements, and temporarily submerged roads. However, initial reports indicate that no significant damages have occurred.

In *Wiesbaden*, a thunderstorm with heavy rain briefly interrupted the “Pride” festival of the Christopher Street Day on Saturday afternoon, highlighting the impact of severe weather on public events.

DWD Expects Thunderstorms in Bavaria

The *Deutscher Wetterdienst* has also issued warnings for parts of *Bavaria*, anticipating severe thunderstorms throughout the weekend. At nightfall, a warning was issued for heavy storms in the northwest of the state. The expected weather conditions include hailstones of up to three centimeters and fierce gusts of wind. The weather service estimates that rain amounts could reach up to 40 liters per square meter in a very short time span.

According to forecasts, additional severe weather incidents could occur on Sunday, particularly affecting regions including *Bavaria*, *Baden-Württemberg*, and *Rhineland-Palatinate*.
