Severe thunderstorms have hit several places in southern Norway on Wednesday afternoon. In Østfold alone, lightning strikes have led to five forest fires. There has been a drought for a long time and it is very dry in nature. – We have five forest fires. There are fires in Skiptvet and Aremark, and a couple of places in Rakkestad, says duty manager Arne Nurmi at East 110 central. The fire service is in a great hurry to get the fires under control. – It’s hectic right now, says the duty manager. The torrential rain has led to flooding in several places. In Fredrikstad, two underpasses in the center are full of water. It is not passable for vehicles, the police write on Twitter. The Swedish Road Administration has been notified. It is difficult to know exactly where it will appear, says state meteorologist on duty Eldbjørg Moxnes. – But the whole of Eastern Norway is exposed throughout the afternoon and evening. The warning applies from Thursday afternoon until the end of the day. The predicted torrential rain is expected in, among other places, Agder, Rogaland, Hordaland and Sogn og Fjordane. The Meteorological Institute has recorded over 1,000 lightning strikes in southern Norway in one hour between 1.30pm and 2.30pm. And the number is constantly increasing.
