The mass flight from the controversial Boris Johnson continues. The Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Brandon Lewis, and the Secretary of State for the Treasury, Helen Whately, are resigning. Secretary of State Helen Whatley and Damian Hinds are also leaving the government in protest of Boris Johnson’s resignation. During Question Time in Parliament yesterday, Johnson was asked a specific question about a possible resignation: – Does the Prime Minister think there are any circumstances in which the Prime Minister would resign? The answer from the Prime Minister was clear: – The job of a prime minister who has been given a challenging mandate is to continue, Boris Johnson replied. The uprising and mass flight began on Tuesday when the prime minister admitted that he knew about the accusations against a trusted party member, Chris Pincher, but still appointed him one of the whips of the Conservative party earlier this year. Prior to the admission, several members of the government apparatus had been sent to the media to defend Johnson. They said the boss did not know of any specific allegations of sexual misconduct. Minutes after Johnson apologized and called Pincher’s appointment a mistake, Health Minister Sajid Javid announced his resignation. Within the same hour, Minister of Finance Rishi Sunak also resigned. Pincher is accused of stabbing two men. He was suspended from the Conservative Party last week.
