It was at 01.10 on Sunday night that the police received the dramatic message of a collision between two boats in the Bærøyfjord off Kragerø. It was first reported that two people were seriously injured. They were picked up by air ambulance and flown to hospital. On Sunday, the police state that it is no longer described as serious injuries, but is about broken bones and minor head injuries. Three others were taken to the emergency room for a check-up after the accident, but could be discharged after a short time. Run away from the place The emergency services sent large resources to the area when they received the message. One boat ran away from the scene after the accident, which made the situation confusing for the emergency services, says Kristian Johnsrud, operations manager in the Southeast police district. He is now suspected of driving with a blood alcohol level. – They were probably afraid of being caught driving while intoxicated, Johnsrud told news on Sunday morning. The police have secured the necessary blood samples from the boat driver. Whether it will have further consequences for the suspect that he fled the scene is too early to say. – The case is under investigation, so the lawyer must return to it. But I would think it will have an aftermath, says Johnsrud. One boat, with the injured, came to port at Kragerø for its own engine. There must have been eight people on board this boat. At 2.20, the police announced that the operation had ended. – After all, it is good that it went as it went. For a while we did not know if anyone was in the water, says Johnsrud. Investigating the incident further The police inform the newspaper Varden that those involved come from Telemark and Buskerud. – We have had some short, initial interrogations and conversations with those involved, but there is a lot left. The investigation has barely begun, Ottar Steinstø, operations manager at the South-East police district, told the newspaper on Sunday morning. It was a 22-foot RIB with a 200-horsepower engine and a Hydrolift with 300 horsepower that collided. It was the latter boat that ran away from the place. It is not known if the two boats had high speed when they collided. – The case is being investigated further on Monday, Johnsrud states.
