Around 2,200 households in Agder lost power on Tuesday evening, writes Fædrelandsvennen. On Wednesday morning, around 800 households in Birkenes, Grimstad, Froland and Åmli were still without electricity. Heavy snow has caused heavy and wet snow to settle on the lines. Trees have also been bent over the lines due to the heavy snow. “Unfortunately, this means that some customers lose power, especially in the inner parts of Østre Agder,” says Agder Energi press officer May Britt Risbruna to news. Agder Energi is working to solve the problems, but the snow makes correcting the error challenging for the installers. – There is half a meter of snow in several places. It makes the work demanding, says Ristbruna on Wednesday morning. Working to restore power Agder Energi was prepared that the snowfall could have consequences. They therefore called in extra crews. – We have supplied many customers via alternative power paths, with remote-controlled switches so that we reduce the number. In addition, we have extra crews out to correct errors, says Risbruna to news. It has been snowing heavily in Agder for the past 24 hours, but Risbruna believes the predicted rain to come will improve the situation. Agder Energi has called in extra crews who are working on correcting faults throughout the evening. Photo: Erik Wiig Andersen / news Norway’s Directorate of Water Resources and Energy has warned of a risk of flooding for the next few days, with a yellow level for the Skagerrak coast from Lindesnes to Telemark. – It is difficult to say when everyone can have the power back. We hope that most people will have power back on tomorrow morning, but we can’t promise that, says Risbruna. Fears for telephone coverage Telenor fears that some areas in Southern Norway may lose telephone coverage due to the power outages. – In the event of a power cut, our base stations only have battery capacity for two to four hours, says coverage director Bjørn Amundsen in Telenor to Fædrelandsvennen. It is especially in Froland that this is most critical, because the electricity there has been gone for a long time. – It is mostly normal operation, but there may be minor impacts on the coverage, says press officer Anders Krokan, in Telenor to news on Wednesday morning. According to Mayor Ove Gundersen, this is a known problem in the interior of Froland, where the electricity often disappears when it snows heavily. – Agder Energi Nett has taken measures to fell trees, but it is clearly not sufficient. We have not yet set up a crisis team in the municipality, he tells Fædrelandsvennen at 9.15pm. The heavy and wet snow creates problems for the power supply in Agder. Photo: Agder Energi Nett / NTB
