21 May 2023 at 00:09 Seven-day ceasefire signed in Sudan The Sudanese government army and the paramilitary group RSF have signed a seven-day ceasefire, the US and Saudi Arabia report in a joint statement. The truce comes into force on Monday at 9.45 local time, writes Reuters. The parties to the conflict have entered into several ceasefire agreements in the past which have not been respected. The new ceasefire will be monitored by an internationally supported group, according to the agreement that was concluded after negotiations in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. The fighting around the Sudanese capital Khartoum has been going on for six weeks and has driven hundreds of thousands to flee the African country.
