A senior doctor in psychiatry was arrested on 1 October and charged with rape of a patient. The woman’s legal aid lawyer, Stian Kristensen, says that she primarily chose to report it because she feared that others would be exposed to the same thing. – In addition to that, it is also about what she herself has been exposed to. It is difficult and she is facing a tough time now. Kristensen says that the woman explains that she has been prescribed large quantities of medication by the senior doctor, and that she was under the influence of these when the abuse allegedly occurred. It was Stavanger Aftenblad that reported on the case first. Arrested at work The doctor was arrested while he was at work. The court remanded the doctor in custody because they believed there was a risk of evidence being lost. He was remanded in custody for four weeks with mail and visit control. Police prosecutor Eli Valheim, who is the prosecuting lawyer in the case, tells Stavanger Aftenblad that the prison term will be extended to a week. – The police are now investigating. Interviews have been carried out by the superior, witnesses and documentation obtained, so it will naturally be the case that more people will be called in for questioning and follow-up questioning of the accused and the victim, says Kristensen. The superior is charged with rape, which carries a penalty of up to 15 years in prison. The superior’s defense attorney, Per Ivar Hessen, says the man denies criminal guilt. Now we will get an overview of the case and continuously introduce ourselves to the investigative work of the police, and possibly see if there is a need for supplementary evidence, says Hessen. Beyond that, the defender has no further comment. Published 25/10/2024, at 19.18 Updated 25.10.2024, at 19.45
